This is a page to celebrate the history and accomplishments of Rochester, N.Y.  In no particular order, it’s a growing list of facts to remind us why #ROC is a great place to live, work, and visit.

Mount Hope Cemetery was America’s first municipal Victorian cemetery.  Dedicated in 1838, Mount Hope is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Midtown Plaza was the nation’s first urban indoor shopping mall (Emphasis on urban – many here believe it was the first indoor mall period, which is not the case).  Midtown was designed by Victor Gruen, a pioneer in the design of shopping malls.

America’s first boomtown: The Genesee River and the Erie Canal helped turn Rochester into an industrial powerhouse, and fueled massive population growth during the city’s early days.
